Design system integration with Claude design
Another day another AI drop. Claude design looks genuinely useful. You aim it at your design system and it reads it, your tokens, your components, your spacing rules, your typography. Then it applies that to every design it generates is on-brand, consistent.
Ideal for rapid prototypes or quick ideation, probably a good starter for new components to be tested. Even design to dev handoff.
Am I a UX engineer?
I taught myself to code because I was frustrated. Not with design, with the gap between what I designed and what ended up in the browser. Learning HTML and CSS felt like the only honest way to close it.
For a couple of roles early in my career, front-end development was my full-time job. I built webpages, emails, and marketing templates from scratch. I understood the constraints not from reading about them but from living inside them. That changes how you design. You stop specifying things that can't be built, and you start making decisions that make the developer's job easier rather than harder.
These days I wouldn't call myself a developer. The tools have moved on, my focus has shifted, and honestly AI has made the gap between design and code smaller than it has ever been. Animations and interactions that used to take days to prototype in code now take minutes, which means I can explore motion and behaviour as part of the design process rather than leaving it to handover.
But I still think in code when I design. I still know what's expensive to build and what isn't. And when I'm working with engineers I'm not guessing, I'm speaking their language.
So am I a UX Engineer? Probably somewhere on the spectrum. Close enough to be useful, honest enough to know my limits.
